Texture Matching in Ocala and Marion County
Texture matching adds $0.75 to $1.50 per square foot on top of a repair, and it is the step that decides whether a patch disappears into the wall or stands out under paint. We match orange peel, knockdown, and skip trowel, the three textures we see most in Marion County homes.
Getting the spray pattern, the knockdown pressure, or the trowel stroke wrong by even a little is what makes a patch obvious from across the room. We test the pattern on a scrap board first and compare it against the wall in the same light before we commit to the final pass.

Matching Orange Peel
Orange peel is a light, bumpy spray texture common on walls and ceilings built from the 1990s on. We thin the compound to match the existing bump size and spray a test patch, checking it dry since texture often looks different wet than it does once it cures.
Spray pattern, air pressure, and how far back we hold the gun all change the bump size, so we dial it in on scrap before touching your wall.

Matching Knockdown
Knockdown starts the same way as orange peel, a spray pattern of compound, but gets lightly flattened with a wide knife before it sets up. The timing of that knockdown pass controls how sharp or soft the finished texture looks.
We match the flatten timing to the surrounding wall so the new texture reads the same under daylight and under a lamp at night.
Matching Skip Trowel
Skip trowel is hand-applied with a trowel in a random pattern, more common in older Ocala homes and some custom builds. It takes more time to match by hand than a sprayed texture, since every trowel stroke is a little different.
We study the pattern on the existing wall, the spacing, the ridge height, before starting, then work in small sections so the new area ties into the old one without a visible line.
- Orange peel: light spray texture
- Knockdown: sprayed, then flattened
- Skip trowel: hand-applied with a trowel
- Test patch checked dry before final pass

When This Gets Added to a Repair
Texture matching is almost always paired with a patch or crack repair, not a standalone service on its own. Once the new board is taped and the compound is sanded flat, we add the texture as the last step before the wall is ready for primer.
The $0.75 to $1.50 per square foot add-on covers the test pattern, the texture application, and the extra dry time it needs before paint.
Questions
We match orange peel, knockdown, and skip trowel, which cover most homes in Marion County. We test the pattern on scrap before applying it to your wall.
A mismatched texture is the usual reason. We test and compare the pattern in the same light as the room before finishing the repair, which cuts down on that problem.
It is priced as an add-on, $0.75 to $1.50 per square foot on top of the repair cost, since it is extra time and material beyond a smooth patch.
