Water Damage Repair in Ocala and Marion County
Water damage repair runs $350 to $1,200 per section in the Ocala area, depending on how large the wet area is and whether mold-resistant board is called for. The process is always the same: cut out the wet section, dry the space to a dry meter read, replace with new board, and finish to match.
On a recent job in Ocala, a slow bath leak had soaked a 4x8 foot section of wall. We cut it out, dried the cavity to a dry meter read, installed mold-safe board, taped it with mesh, and matched the existing orange peel texture. The section ran $820 and took three days counting dry time.

Why We Dry to a Meter Read First
Replacing wet drywall before the framing behind it is actually dry just traps moisture behind new board, and the problem comes back. We use a moisture meter to check the studs and subfloor, not just the drywall, and we do not close the wall back up until the reading comes back dry.
This step is what separates a lasting repair from one that looks fine for a few months and then stains again.
Cutting Out the Damaged Section
We cut back to solid, dry board and sound framing, usually to the nearest stud on each side of the wet area so the new piece has something solid to screw into. Any insulation that got soaked comes out too, since wet insulation holds moisture against the back of new board.
Where the damage traces to a specific leak, we point it out so you can get it fixed before we close the wall. Replacing drywall over an active leak is not a fix.

Replacing with the Right Board
Bathrooms, laundry rooms, and any spot with a history of moisture get mold-resistant board on the replacement, which runs a bit more than standard board but holds up better against the next small leak or humid spell.
We screw in the new piece, tape every edge with mesh tape, and build the joint compound in the same number of coats as the original work so the patch matches the wall's existing finish level.
- Moisture meter check before closing the wall
- Wet insulation removed and replaced
- Mold-resistant board where moisture is a risk
- Texture matched to the surrounding wall
What to Expect
Dry time is the variable most homeowners underestimate. Depending on how deep the moisture got into the framing, drying can take one to several days before we replace the board, which is why we build it into the schedule and the quote up front.
Once the section is dry, cutting, hanging, taping, and texture matching usually wrap up in a day or two. The goal is a wall that blends with the rest of the room, not a patch you can spot from the doorway.

Questions
We check the studs and subfloor with a moisture meter, not just the drywall surface. We don't replace the board until the reading comes back dry.
Not always, but we treat any area with a history of moisture seriously. Mold-resistant board goes in on replacements where moisture is a repeat risk, like bathrooms and laundry rooms.
Get the source of the leak fixed before or during the drywall repair. Replacing the wall over an active leak just means doing the repair again later.
